California’s history is rooted in its missions, and Oceanside is home to the largest of them all. Founded in 1798, Mission San Luis Rey de Francia, California’s eighteenth mission, was named for St. Louis, King of France. This is one of the most architecturally impressive of all the California missions, featuring a mix of Spanish, Mexican and Moorish styles. Even landlubbers will enjoy Oceanside’s Harbor and Village. Home to hundreds of boats and yachts, the harbor offers sailing lessons, deep-sea fishing trips, whale watching excursions, and kayak and Jet Ski rentals. After a day on the sea, visit the Cape Cod-style Harbor Village for fresh seafood and shopping, or just to watch the commercial fishing boats bring in the catch of the day. Historic downtown Oceanside is a mecca for shoppers, with high-end boutiques, antique stores and trendy clothiers. From surf shops to wine bars and cigar stores, there’s plenty to see and buy along historic Coast Highway 101. Take a stroll through Oceanside’s past at the Heritage Park Village & Museum. Located on Main Street, Heritage Park Village includes many of Oceanside’s original buildings, such as the first General Store, Blacksmith Shop & Livery Stable and the Old City Jail. 760-433-8297
There’s nothing quite like watching the sunset while listening to an outdoor concert. And that’s just what locals do at the Oceanside Pier Amphitheater’s Summer Seagaze Concerts, which features major name entertainers. Located just to the south of the pier, the amphitheater is a great place to relax after a day at the beach.

Market. Held every Thursday morning in downtown Oceanside, the Farmers Market also features beautiful flowers,
local fish, herbs, honey, nuts and baked goods.
